The Asus Zenfone 5z stormed into the market with an aggressive pricing, directly targeting the OnePlus 5T/6, while undercutting its price by a significant margin. It launched as the cheapest phone with a Snapdragon 845 and boy, does it not disappoint. Despite having a rather lackluster UI in the form of ZenUI, it manages to be among the fastest phones I have ever laid my hands on. It has the best LCD screen in the industry, surpassing the likes of even the iPhone 8 Plus and the LG G6 and G7. It has a 3.5mm headphone jack, and one of the most powerful ones at that, with an NXP 9874 AMP. The audio output is astoundingly good. The phone comes with a decent battery which lasts the entire day. The screen is definitely the one main advantage this phone has. As far as the disadvantages are concerned, the primary one is the camera. The software has AI baked in, for scene recognition purposes and it does a fair job at it. But the photos are not very sharp or detailed and lose clarity drastically as the lighting goes low. The ultra wide angle camera is a great addition but lacks resolution coming at just about 8MP. The front camera is fine but has the airbrush effect and does not have a very high dynamic range. Overall, this is a great phone for people looking for something cheaper than a OnePlus 6, but not good enough to beat it.
